Coating Wood - How Best To Apply EPL

Is it finally time to apply that cool deck coating to cool down the summer heat? Maybe you just bought some of our EPL Wood Coating and now you want to know the best methods for application? Or, perhaps you are new to this whole coating wood subject and are simply looking for a few hints to make your project as smooth as possible, from every angle?

Whatever your needs are, we are here to help.

Before beginning any application, always remember to clean any pressure-treated and aged woods with a strong power wash with plain water - this will help remove any surface contamination before treatment.

If you are concerned with children running on very wet wood - we strongly recommend using the 'sanded' treatment style. Simply stir two cups of dry play sand into each quart of EPL before you apply. Your wood pool deck will have a gritty surface to increase resistance to wet slip.

Procedure For Wood Coating With EPL

1) Temperature must be below 90 degrees and above 50 degrees.

2) Wood must be dry and clean (no rain in last day, or forecast for current day).

3) For optimal results, pressure wash your wood with clean water (no chemical additives) and then let it dry thoroughly.

4) Lightly stir EPL, and then apply a uniform coat - thin to moderate. We recommend using a pad-type brush.

5) Brush out all bubbles, runs, and drips before they completely dry.

6) EPL dries in one hour but might take a full 4 to 5 days to be completely cured. You may want to recoat after the first coat is dry (in about one hour). Hint: Tables and furniture may be placed onto coating in about one hour; however, we recommend putting petroleum jelly on the bottoms of the furniture legs to prevent items from sticking to coating until it cures.

7) We recommend 2 coats be applied during the first year. For high-traffic and horizontal areas, annual reapplication is recommended to maintain appearance and protection.

Additional application/performance hints:
EPL performs ideally with decks that are well drained.
